welcome to a different sistah's website

greetings all, you can refer to me as renaissancesistah, a different african american sistah.  it has taken quite sometime to arrive at this destination. i've had many ideas in the brain, but not enough patience to pull all of those thoughts out and place on paper. it's the beginning of 2001, and what better way to start the new year off properly, than to start here.  just as surprises and changes creep up and occur in our day to day lives.... i'd like to provide changes to this site more often than never, so be for- warned.  please check back often, and don't forget to email your comments.

i am a 31 year old - full-figured, independent, intelligent, serious minded individual that enjoys intellectually stimulating conversation. I am humorous, childless-meaning i have no children, and a bashful person, although i love companionship. in other words i don`t like to depend on others, nor have them tell me what to do, but i like to share experiences with them. i am a confident, self assured, down to earth woman with a sense of humor. i have turned a disappointing childhood, in to a wonderful adult life. most of my dreams & goals have become accomplishments, and i am continuing to strive for the more. i will allow nothing to stand in my way other than what GOD has placed before me. i enjoy life, and the many lessons that are placed before me. i am a living testimony that if you try, try, and try again - you will definitely reach a higher level of understanding and achievement.

i am from st. louis, mo working in the computer technology field. i have over eight years experience in this field- training, tech support, web design, etc. - and still gaining knowledge as technology moves us in all directions - as well as incorporating itself into our daily lives....who knows what's to come in the "mysterious" future! Some ask why the name renaissancesistah..., and I explain - I am someone with diverse expertise in several fields -Art, Music, Literature, Technology, Photography, Video Production, Journalism, etc.....

i`m a fanatic for particular things: [technology, music, reading and video games.] - i`ll utilize the computer for any and everything [and i will debate you over whether its utilization is really a sport or not]. i also love various types of music except country... i have a love for jill scott, erykah badu, john coltrane, miles davis, cece winans, yolanda adams, marymary...to name a few.

technology [computers] - I do have a passion for computers and technology - Not only because its just plain cool, but I see technology as a tool to better our lives. I know that there is the "dark" side of technology. But cant we pretty much say that about everything. If used responsibly, technology is a great thing. It allows us to communicate with each other in different ways. It lets us reach out to others by voicing our opinions (just like I`m doing on blackplanet) and keeping in touch with our friends that are far away. I honestly don`t know where my life would be without computers. I study them, I work on them, I play on them, and I enjoy learning about them. However, I feel its also important not to lose that interpersonal relationship that can only be had by face to face contact. When the computer screen becomes more of your friend than actual flesh, then there is a problem.

I would one day like to open a technology center or techno-cafe. I am not sure how to get started, but i keep dreaming and planning & perhaps one day, it shall appear. I understand there has been one created in Brooklyn - KoKobar....hmmmm! I guess I better get moving, the african american race is fastly being left behind in this digital divide.  We must somehow incorporate this technology in all of our lives.  I would like to assist with this process sooner, rather than later.

video games [sega dreamcast] ...i have to say that the graphics on the Sega Dreamcast are awesome. current favorites include shenmue, nfl2k1, nba2k1, and virtual tennis, if you don`t have one, your really missing out on something great. Any challenger on NBA2k1 or NFL2k1... a woman with skillz.. what's up????

music [what I am vibing]  - i currently have the following in the deck....jill scott, musiq soulchild, macy gray, common, erykah badu, sade, bahamadia, mos def, rachelle ferrell, marvin gaye, lauryn hill, digible planets, goodie mob, marymary, amel larrieux, carl thomas, sade, and the soundtrack to "disappearing acts"...

reading [another favorite pastime]  - books currently next to the nightstand include: all of me - the art of happiness, all of me - a voluptuous tale, black pearl, i am because we are, in the mean time, my soul is a witness, testimony, and the holy bible....

chatting [Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, and ICQ] - i utilize various online instant message programs. you can find me under the id of renaissancesistah_2000 utilizing yahoo messenger, and use renaissancesistah with MSN messenger.
